GLITCH!

The aim of the workshop is try and break down the barriers people have engaging with electronics and learn that it’s OK to break stuff as its part of learning. Hopefully a basic understanding of some electrical process will be learnt from rebuilding, though the main purpose is to impart a philosophy of experimentation without fear. "Learning through breaking stuff" is an approach that doesn't follow a standard engineering or scientific approach to making things. It is a philosophy of hands on experiential learning with an emphasis on fun to remove the barriers.

The workshop consists of people bringing in noise making toys, and through the session, each person is helped to destroy and rework the toy into an electronic instrument through experimentation and trial and hopefully error.  To encourage free thinking, no literature is used during the session, all information comes from the hands on experience of destruction and rebuilding. These workshops are primarily aimed at artists and any one interested in tinkering. They can also be tailored to work with engineers or corporate training days to encourage a more creative thinking process.

Duration: Approximately 4-6 hours over 1 or two days as required.

Age Range: Excellent for 11+ (Year 7 onwards), GCSE, A-level, university and adult audiences. Not recommended for under 10s due to equipment involved (though can be tailored to a more child friendly electronics session). Ideal for groups of 5-15 people.

Cost: Cost varies based on location and duration, but usually is around £275 for a 1 day session.
